This paper presents a current-to-voltage conversion device, which is constructed from a magnet, a coil, and two shear-mode piezoelectric plates assembled between retaining plates and a permalloy plate. When energized, the coil generates alternating magnetic filed interacting with the magnet. The current-to-voltage conversion effect essentially results from the force interaction between the magnet and the permalloy plate. The shear stress is then transmitted to the piezoelectric plates which produce voltage output, and the conversion is completed. The average conversion factor reaches 0.39V/A at 1kHz when the current varies from 18mA to 200mA. The results illustrate the potential of the proposed device as magnetic field energy harvester for wireless sensor networks.
