TURBULENT HEAT TRANSFER IN LIQUID METALSTHE MEGAPIE HEATED JET EXPERIMENTS

Within this article the turbulent mixing of a hot PbBi jet into a cold main flow isrnexperimentally studied in the MEGAPIE geometry. The motivation of this study asrnwell as the experimental set-up and the related measurement sources are brieflyrndescribed. The parameter range investigated covers the operational range foreseenrnin the MEGAPIE experiment. The results of the temperature measurements indicaternthat at nominal flow operation conditions a complex flow pattern evolves. This flowrnpattern seems suitable to cool the beam window adequately. For lower main flowrnrates the momentum of the jet flow is capable to cool/heat the whole beam window.rnHowever, for this flow configuration the flow remains not stable and temperaturernoscillations of more than 12% have been detected.
