Model Test on Grouting Diffusion in Water-Rich Sand

Grouting method has been adopted to prevent the leakage and seepage in tunnel excavation. In order to investigate the diffusion behavior of grouting slurry in water-rich sand layer under hydrodynamic condition, series of model test were conducted using model chamber. Resistivity method was used in the model test to detect the slurry diffusion and compared with test results to verify the feasibility of this method. Grouting bulk was also inspected after grouting. Test results indicated that grouting slurry in water-rich sand spreads in an ellipsoid shape under hydrodynamic condition. The center of the grouting bulk is under the grouting outlet due to the effect of gravity action. Grouting method can effectively improve the physical and mechanical properties of water-rich sand and reduce the leakage risk. The range of slurry diffusion detected using resistivity method agreed well with the boundary of grouting bulk in the model test. This indicated that the resistivity method was effective in detecting the slurry diffusion under hydrodynamic condition.
