Wavy composite is a new form of constrained layer damping that uses opposing pairs of in-plane sinusoidal fiber patterns, and viscoelastic materials to create a composite structure that exhibits both high damping and stiffness. This paper reports on the author's development of a specialty Finite Element Analysis code capable of modeling and predicting performance of wavy composite tubes and foam core samples using MathWorks' Matlab® development software. The main use of the code has been to characterize various material combinations and correlate the results to material test results. The FEA code has been shown to be surprisingly accurate and fast and because it was developed in Matlab®, takes advantage of the numerous powerful matrix manipulation routines to perform analyses.
