Environmental, health and safety management (EH&S) has evlved into a complex program area requiring environmental managers and staff to posses a number of specialized skills and specific tools to move forward. Keeping abreast of this is part of the cost of specialized skills and specific tools to move forward, Keeping abreast of this is part of the cost of doing business as is the effective management of the volumes of compliance-related data generated that EH&S personnel need to manage. In addition, ISO 14001 has begun to catapult regulated industries into a new way of thinking and looking at their EH&S responsibilities in a more holistic fashion, incorporating the entire enviromental management system (EMS) as part of this paradigm shilft. SUch outside forces provide regulated organizations with the impetus for achieving maximum regulatory compliance while evaluating production throughput and efficiency with fewer personnel. Whith this change, a new market niche was born that provides EH&S managers tools that can help. Software developers have created various EH&S and EMS issues. Through their efforts, enterprise document management (EDM) enterprise resource planning (ERP), and the more powerful man-machine interface (MMI) software applications have begun to make their mark within various regulated organizations. Each software application satisfied a particular nicher and melds computer software with manufacturing processes and addresses, among other items, regulatory reqirements, such as documents, forms, report. This is the latest area where regulated industries can envision improvements and save dollars within their business units. This presentation will focus upon the opportunities such software can offer industries in helping to manage system overload.
