摘要

Intermetallic compounds Mg_2X(X=Si,Ge,or Sn) have been synthesized by mechanical alloying of blended elemental powders. The phases produced have a cubic structure with the lattice parameters almost the same as those reported in the literature. The relative ease of formation of the intermetallics have been explained on the basis of formation enthalpies of the phases. In the Mg-Sn system, a metastable orthorhombic Mg_2Sn phase was also observed in the as-milled condition.
