Abstract: This paper describes the implementation and first onflight results of a GPS and a star imaging system (SIS)using a common transputer processing unit. Thedescribed transputer navigation unit has beenintegrated on PoSAT-1, the first Portuguese satellite,which was launched into LEO on September 26, 1993. Theauthors present the possible employment of thesesystems, the SIS, the GPS, and the parallel nature oftransputer processing, as a powerful and efficientnavigation unit for small and low earth orbitingsatellites. !3
