The color difference formula recommended by ISO and AATCC, ?ECMC (2:1), is known torncorrelate poorly with expert visual assessment in certain regions of CIELAB color space, particularlyrnblues, neutrals and dark colors. Recently, the CIE developed a new color difference formula,rnCIEDE2000, in an attempt to overcome the deficiencies of currently recommended color differencernformulae such as CIE94 and ?ECMC (2:1). The performance of the new formula is currently being testedrnby the AATCC Color Measurement Committee, RA36.rnReported is a comparison of the performance data of the formulae against visual assessment for arnseries of color difference pairs of fabric samples. Thirty-one expert shade matchers were used torndevelop the visual assessment data for 17 textile sample pairs around 5 color centers. Using this limitedrndataset, the performance of CIEDE2000 was found to be comparable to ?ECMC(2:1).
