Extrusion-Cooking of Rape Seeds

Rape seed is the most popular oleaginous raw material in Central Europe. However mainly used by the oil industry, can be also used in food and feed sectors. Application of extrusion-cooking technique for processing ofthe rape seeds gave promissing reuslts, especially in animal feed production. In the paper our last developments in that field are presented as well as chemical and physical properties of the extrusion-cooked rape seeds obtained with different process conditions on twin screw extruder. Engineering and technological aspects of extrusion-cooking are discussed to show on one hand its potential utylity and for another many difficulties and appearing limitations.
