摘要

In the present paper, radiation effects in high data rate optical fiber transmission lines in advanced communication systems have been investigated. The behavior of optical fiber in radiation fields such as in the case of various civil and military applications (as examples nuclear reactors and satellite communication) is focused upon. The radiation field severely affects both the spectral attenuation and fiber refractive index and consequently the total chromatic dispersion. The transmitter bit rate in such fibers under various irradiation conditions is deeply investigated. The bit rate spectral loss sensitivity as well as the bit rate bandwidth sensitivity are processed in an integrated form under the variations of different affecting parameters. It is found that, the irradiated fiber possesses very small bit rate (3 order of magnitude less than the normal case) and higher sensitivities (higher changes) as well as a sharp decrease around the OH-window (λ=1.39 μm).
