Today's trend of product individualization and, as a result, dramatically increasing number of product variants require a configuration and variant management in all phases of the product life cycle. In this contribution a concept is developed that allows the model configuration and management in the simulation- and computation phases. This is to react to the increasing importance attached to those phases in a virtual product development. Especially in a concurrent engineering environment the sharing of simulation model knowledge is of crucial importance. For this reason the developed concept is integrated into product data management systems (PDM-Systems) based on a newly defined meta data model. This meta data model uses a graph theory approach for a uniform management of different simulation modeling languages. Furthermore, results and concepts from the MechaSTEP project, the STEP PDM-schema as well as the areas of systems engineering and configuration management were used for defining the meta data model.
