Influence of Aggregate Characteristics on Asphalt Mixture Properties and Performance

The performance of asphalt paving mixtures is primarily dependent upon the quality and gradation of the aggregate blend. This paper discusses degradation, gradation of aggregates and the relationships between gradation and mixture properties. Power law regression analyses were used to characterize aggregate gradations and establish tentative guidelines for the selection of aggregate blends exhibiting good in-service behavior.
