The use of computers to aid in data collection and troubleshooting in power plants andrnother industrial processes has been practiced for many years. More recently, the use of sophisticatedrnsimulation tools and expert systems have been developed and applied successfully to aid in thernoptimization of water chemistry programs and overall plant operation. In this paper, the use of theserntools to provide real-time decision support, provide early warning of abnormal conditions, and tornimprove overall plant communications and awareness is described.
