As domestic steel requirements are increasingly met through EAF production, chemical energy will continue to play a greater role in electric furnace optimization. Although some of the benefits of the Burnjector at Citisteel are unique to their melt shop, similar efficiencies can be expected elsewhere. The Burnjector differentiates itself by having combined capabilities of energy input, lance O2 and carbon injection all in one unit. It has superior oxygen lance capabilities since the jet profile is three times longer then existing technologies because of the unique supersonic burner shroud design. This attribute, coupled with its integral carbon injection design, promotes not only early foamy slag formation but also better slag coverage. Its robust design makes it easy to be rolled into existing furnace maintenance practices.
