A MODEL DESCRIPTION OF THE VACUUM OXYGEN DECARBURISATION PROCESS FOR STAINLESS STEEL PRODUCTION

The VODPRO program is a computer-based software for operator guidance in the VOD stainless steel area, ft is built up on the basis-adopted strategy of slag-metal equilibrium relationships in the combination with the derived algorithms and equations from practical VOD experiments. The VOD mathematical model was then assessed and used for predicting and generating useful process data, which gives high flexibility and ease VOD process control. The system is an off-line system (at the moment) with no process interaction, It is implemented on PC computer system with winXX or NT operation system. The VODPRO software represents the latest state in the VOD stainless steel technology and offers: 1. minimized cost of missed charges, 2. high analysis of the present know how for standard and new steel grades, 3. consistent operation practice through operator guidance by means of suitable setpoints and predicting process parameters, 4. support for satisfactory vacuum and argon conditions
