For decades the air conditioning and refrigeration Industries have used a tire core valve, in a threaded refrigeration fitting, for manufacturing and service access to their systems. The revolutionary refrigeration access valve (RAV) has been designed to greatly improve the processing of refrigeration systems by having a higher flow rate than the current tire core access valve. This allows manufacturers to improve productivity by reducing the flow restriction and consequent need for a dedicated auxiliary port to charge their system. In addition to the vastly improved flow, the RAV does not compromise leakage, serviceability, or compatibility with existing tools. Depending on the RAV interface connection, an increased flow can be achieved that is nearly six times that of the conventional tire core access valve. The RAV also provides an improved evacuation rate of four to five times that of the current tire valve process fitting. The increased flow rate does not compromise the leak free seal of the RAV. Using a supply source of 600psi Helium, the RAV has an initial leak rate of 3E-7 cc per second and a saturation leak rate of 3E-6 cc per second. With the addition of a brass cap that is designed to provide a metal-to-metal seal, the leak rate was undetectable in the 10E-9 cc per second range. Another advantage of the RAV is its ease of disassembly and service. It has only one easily replaceable seal, versus two seals in the tire core access valves, minimizing repair costs. All existing tools and connections can be used because they are completely compatible with the RAV. In addition, provision has also been made for snap connecting to an external groove, eliminating the need for manual threading.
