A relay assembly Computer Aided Process Planning (RACAPP) system developed on Mechanical Desktop (MDT), based on the Windows operation system is described in the paper. It has the feature of visualization, intelligence and drawing, word, data in one. It has two chief subsystems: assembly process design and assembly simulating. The former has assembly process chart design, assembly process card design, professional process rule design and system preference modules, every module is independent in function but related each other, can transfer its design data to others, to realize the integration and intelligence. The latter can realize computer simulating for the assembly process designed to check its feasibility, meanwhile can return the result of computer simulating to the assembly process rule design, to perfect the RACAPP system. Also we can return the result of simulating to the structure molding design, to improve the structure of product, so as to improve the assembly process of product.
