To meet the ever-increasing demands and challenges present in the global marketplace, businesses face the continual tasks of monitoring and improving the quality, efficiency, and productivity of their organizations. An effective way of managing and organizing the various processes used in business aviation is through the application of a formal quality management system, such as ISO 9000. Introduced by the International Organization for Standards in 1987, and recently revised in early 2000, ISO 9000 is a group of standards that represents an international consensus on good management practices. ISO 9000 provides the framework for taking a systematic approach to managing business processes so that an organization can consistently deliver products or services that meet a minimum quality standard. The application of ISO 9000 quality standards to business aviation more specifically serves to increase the use of standardized processes and procedures to achieve and maintain the highest levels of customer service and satisfaction. While few would argue the merits of improving customer service and quality, the implementation of a structured quality management system should be carefully examined and planned in order to achieve the maximum levels of performance and success.
