INTRODUCTIONStudies indicated that stearate suppressed triacylglycerol synthesis from newly synthesized fatty acids (Hansen and Knudsen,1987)and the expression of acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase alpha (ACACA) and fatty acid synthase (FASN) (Kadegowda et al.2009),whereas intracellular triglyceride content was induced by stearatein bovine mammary epithelial cells(BMECs)(Kadegowda et al.2009).Little data regardingeffect of stearate on milk protein synthesis is available and the results were inconsistent (Yonezawa et al.,2004;Pauloin et al.,2010).The present study examined the effects of exogenous stearate on cell viability and the accumulation of TAG,together with mRNA expression of αsl-casein (CSN1S1) and genes involved in lipid synthesis in BMECs,to provide a theory basis for further elucidating the mechanism by which stearate regulated milk fat and protein synthesis.
