Iron silicate slags contain various levels of magnesia and alumina which influence the liquidus temperature of multiicomponent slags. Certain combiantions of these components are often needed in order to lower the liquidus temperature of the slag in current or developing processes. The prediction of these combinations can decrease the cost of the overall process. In this work the predictions of a thermodynamic model of phase diagrams, which shows the influence of magnesia and alumina on the liquidus surface of multicomponent slags. These diagrams can be used directly by the process operators to determine the optimum composition of the slag with the lowest possible liquidus temperature.
