The SUPERCLAUS process is a new development of the well-knownrnClaus process and produces elemental sulphur from H2S. ThernSUPERCLAUS process implies a modification of the process controlrnsystem and the use of a newly developed selective oxidationrncatalyst in the third reactor with the object to yield 99% orrn99.5% overall sulphur recovery (two versions) without any furtherrntail gas clean-up.rnThe catalyst has several unique characteristics:rn- Conversion of H2S with excess oxygen into elemental sulphurrnfor more than 90%.rn- No establishment of the reverse Claus reactionrn3rn- - Sn + 2 H20 ~- 2 H2S + SO 2rnnrnHigh water concentrations in the process gas have hardly anyrninfluence on the conversion of H2S into sulphur.rnOther combustibles are not oxidized.rnThe SUPERCLAUS process can be applied in new as well as inrnexisting Claus plants.
