This presentation summarizes the experiences of a student led multi-discipline engineering team in solving a space utilization conflict generated by the move of the West Point Prep School (WPPS) from Ft Monmouth, NJ to West Point, NY. This is a student led real world study addressing the challenges of moving a complete institution to a new location and the unique challenges associated with the West Point. The space utilization conflict is imposed due to scheduling constraints involving construction and the academic year. The student led team conducted a detail stakeholder analysis to determine the extent of the challenge facing both the WPPS and West Point. The unique nature of the two institutions and requirement to keep the WPPS cadet candidates and the West Point cadets separate generated very unique circumstances which the team had to address and overcome to develop workable solutions. The study also generated and scored alternatives. The high profile nature of this study made the work of the student led team exceptionally important and relevant. The team briefed their work to a panel of senior leaders at West Point. The impact of the work is still pending at the time of this abstract but will be included in the final analysis and presentation. Finally, the study addresses the West Point Department of Systems Engineering Capstone program as a culminating experience for engineering management and system engineering majors.
