For the evaluated range of wire sizes (0.22 mm~2 to AWG 18), terminal material thickness of .25 mm, and length of the conductor grip (from 2.2 mm to 3.75 mm), the following conclusions can be drawn out of this study:rn1. Tighter grips are more resistant to failure than looser grips (CHmin vs. CHmax).rn2. For the smaller wire sizes (0.22 mm~2 and 0.35 mm~2), all tests showed no clear relationship of conductor grip length to the performance of the crimp.rn3. For the larger wire sizes (0.5 mm~2 and AWG 18), all tests showed consistent results. A minimum grip length of 3.0 mm is required to exceed given acceptance criteria for wire harnesses in the automotive industry. Decreasing the grip length below 3.0 mm would result in loss of mechanical and electrical performance.
