摘要

This paper describes a workflow and systems design for cross-media publishing of news, agnostic to content type and location, thus supporting various multi-channel publishing schemes. By focusing on news topics and interrelated content rather than on specific publishing channels, new work patterns can be created. This technical and organizational switch also provides expanded possibilities of flexible content re-use in multiple channels. Through the accumulation and cross-connection of data sources using structured metadata, resource allocation and content retrieval from many sources can be automated and the reporters and editors can now concentrate on the narrative aspects of the editorial process, allowing the news topic at hand to be the common denominator for cross-channel publishing. This breaks up the monolithic structure of traditional news desks where only very few persons make global publishing decisions. This approach has been demonstrated and tested in a prototype of a pre-media system. The preliminary tests support the viability of a news-based editorial workflow and system design principles.
