摘要

Now that we are approaching the end of this detailed review of paper, the reader will understand that my heart belongs to paper and everything to do with it. The German poet Friedrich von Schiller (1759-1808) wrote sensitively: 'Body and voice lend script to mute thought, throughout the centuries a stream carries the speaking leaf, and the Scotsman David Hume (1711-1776) also emphasised the importance of paper as a material crucial for the development of mankind at a time when paper had already been produced sheet by sheet for more than 1,800 years. He stated that, 'there would not exist such a thing that we call culture, science and literature if it had not been that a long time ago a genius had an amazing idea, that was the invention of paper.'
