On Distributions of Error and Non-Error Changes in the Eclipse Project

This paper presents an empirical study on the distribution of changes in the Eclipse Project. We analyzed 220 modules, 33904 files, 3780201 lines of code, and 49853 changes. Our study focused on two levels of software artifact: module and file. We found that the power-law distribution was a common phenomenon for software changes. It existed when considering all changes, error changes, and non-error changes. Furthermore, the distribution was observed to exist at both the module and file level.
