PLZT compositions have been explored with La and Ti content in the range of 4-6 atom% and 0-3 atom% respectively. In this work the temperature dependence of the capacitance and the capacitive energy storage density of MLCs made from these materials were studied. The key advantage of capacitors made from the new PLZT materials is that they can be made significantly smaller than existing components for these high-energy applications. The small size is especially important for implantable medical devices. Energy densities as great as 12 Joules/cm~3 have been achieved.
