Directional drilling perforates big water main

October 2000 a contractor performing a directional drilling in relation to a project of conveying light guidesrnperforated a big water main from two waterworks to greater Copenhagen area. The contractors had failed tornundertake the necessary excavation of the place of crossing before carrying out the directional drilling due tornlack of all information of existing pipes and cables. As a result two waterworks with a daily production ofrn45.000 m3 water – 25% of normal daily consumption in grater Copenhagen area - had to be out of operationrnfor three weeks, and alternative supplies to thousands of consumers had to be established overnight.
