Conventional structures of sewage pipe joints vary depending on the end shape of sewerrnpipes. The shapes are roughly classified into two types: one with a bell on one end and arnspigot on the other and the other with straight ends. Bell and spigot joints are made byrninserting the spigot fitted with a rubber O-ring gasket in the bell of another pipe. In therncase of jointing plain pipes, a coupler is generally fitted to the joint after fitting a rubberrnO-ring gasket to the ends of the pipes. However, the flexibility of these joints depends onrnthe degree of slip-out of such joints, causing uncertainty about repeated stress and stressrnduring an earthquake. This paper reports on socketless flexible joints of sewage pipesrndirectly wrapped with non-PVC film to resist cyclic live loading and loading during anrnearthquake.
