The importance of the collectors for an efficient sewerage system

Denmark is at present investing heavily in its sewerage system. The money is being spent on new treatmentrnfacilities and basins and on rehabilitation of sewer mains. Very few resources have been allocated torninspection and rehabilitation of the sewerage system’s collector pipes (collectors). Considering that collectorsrnmake up half of the public sewerage system and are the foundation of an efficient system, is this reallyrnoptimum application of the available resources? This article deals with the importance of collectors for anrnefficient sewerage system and includes some results from inspections of the Danish sewerage system’srncollectors.
