This paper presents automatic generation control (AGC) as a two area thermal interconnected hybrid power generation system where wind power generator (WPG) and solar power generator (SPG) are considered as additional power producers. Both the areas are equipped with thermal generation units with WPG at area 1 and SPG at area 2. Comparison is carried out assuming integral (I), proportional integral (PI) and proportional integral derivative (PID) as a secondary controller for maintaining system frequency. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is used for optimizing the gain parameters of the controller. System dynamic responses are examined using various loading conditions. Sensitivity analysis are carried out incorporating ±25%, ±50% change in loading conditions and incorporating variation in wind and solar power. All the conditions are suitably presented and the simulation works are performed in MATLAB/Simulink.
