Renewable energy sources (RES) (fuel cell, hydro, wind, and solar PV) are having great impact on low voltage (LV) distribution networks and their operations. To overcome major power quality (PQ) issues such as voltage harmonics, flickers, and reactive power burden, a model of the practical medium voltage (MV) distribution system is presented in which real-time load of local industry named “H.A Fibers” located near 500KV Grid Station, NTDC Multan, Pakistan is considered. In this, fuel cell is considered for real time estimation, and it is proposed that D-STATCOM have been proven itself to resolve PQ issues. The concept of microgrid is realized incorporating real-time industrial load which is mainly inductive in nature. Two control techniques of D-STATCOM for voltage and reactive power control are designed and compared for smooth operation of microgrid between its modes of operation.
