The paper reports on the development of a fiber-based laser beam tracking system for Free Space Optics communication. The system uses a fiber bundle which composes four navigation Hard-Clad Silica fibers around the receiving fiber. A MEMS mirror is used as a compensation element. A novel tracking algorithm is presented and analysed. Simulation results indicate that 300 Hz is a reachable system bandwidth. The tracking system can be used for compensating image jitter at the focal plane of the receiving optics as well as vibration of the receiver and transmitter terminal due to wind or mechanical distraction. At the end of the paper, the pros and cons of the system are summarized. The fiber-based tracking system should improve coupling efficiency of modern optical wireless links.
