A method to obtain a description of programming teaching issues is introduced. This method is organized in two steps. In the first one, Systematic Literature Review (SLR) techniques are applied in order to obtain a collection of texts which contain expressions related to issues and challenges about programming teaching. In this step, quantitative results about presence and evolution are obtained. The second step is based on Grounded Theory (GT) techniques which are applied in order to obtain the description of programming teaching issues from expressions embedded in texts selected from specialized literature. From the comparison between descriptions, qualitative results about problematic evolution are obtained. Completeness is analyzed by applying the didactic triangle to the newest snapshot.
