This paper presents a simulation tool for ad hoc low voltage dc grids operating with decentralized control. With increasing interest in such grids, researchers require a tool with which they can explore aspects such as scalability and control techniques of these grids. A new tool has been developed in MATLAB which meets two goals: (1) non-graphical construction through netlists, and (2) scripted control laws. The tool uses simple circuit models where sources are modelled as current sources. The tool also incorporates time profiles for varying sources and loads. Various test cases are used to demonstrate the tool which is also verified against physical experiments.
