As the most important parts of the summer peak load, air conditioning possesses huge potential load adjustment ability in the demand response of (he power system. This paper concentrates on developing this kind of potential to the greatest extent. Considering the load shedding amount and its duration during the system peak period, a new demand response ability index in kW-min, is proposed. The assessment model of large scale air conditioning load cluster to participate in the system demand response is established, based on the advanced discrete particle swarm problem, which aims to maximize the index and constrained by body comfortable satisfactions and normal operation conditions. Finally, results of actual example studies demonstrate the validity of the proposed model.
