Virtualizing real servers with unsupported OS by VMware vCenter Converter v6

Migration of a real server into virtual environment can be challenging. For well-known operating systems (OS) VMware vCenter Converter v6 offers viable solutions for most server configurations. Attention of this article is mostly concentrated on migrating a real server Fedora Linux to VMware virtual environment. This type of server is not officially supported. From our research we have found that migrating Fedora Linux is possible most of the time. For situations when the conversion process failed we found solutions that were not properly or completely documented on the Internet. This article provides comprehensive information about the virtualization process and all necessary steps to have a successful migration of a real server into virtual environment. Details provided in this document are applicable also to another Linux distributions.
