Evaluation on Production Efficiency of Non-Ferrous Metal Industry in China

Using the China's provincial panel data during 2006-2010,this paper empirically studies the production efficiency of non-ferrous metal industries of 29 provinces by using the DEA model and Malmquist index.The static analysis result shows the production efficiency of this industry is low and influenced by local economic development.The inefficiency of non-ferrous metal industry is mainly caused by the inefficiency of pure technical efficiency.Based on dynamic analysis,the gap in the production efficiency of the industry among provinces has widened.The productivity takes on a rise trend in general from 2006 to 2010,because the mean of Malmquist index is greater than one.The fluctuation of technological progress is negatively correlated to that of technical efficiency.
