The Incident Command System (ICS) is a standardized approach typicallyrnstructured into five functional areas: Command, Operations, Planning, Logistics, andrnFinance. The system allows for the integration of personnel, facilities, equipment,rnprocedures, and communications within an organizational structure. Knowledge of ICSrnshould aid in the prevention and/or proper mitigation of industrial incidents. The coursern“Hazardous Materials Incident Management” is taught at Oklahoma State Universityrn(OSU), which is designed to prepare students to manage hazardous materials emergenciesrnthrough hands-on trainings. The presentation shows three design scenarios and how thernICS is effectively applied by several groups of students during the field trainings.rnEmergency response can be safely and effectively accomplished only when proceduresrnare established and standardized through appropriate training. The close discussion withrnthe industry will help the academia to well prepare the next generation of both public andrnprivate sector emergency response personnel.
