High quality and low cost are natural contradictions for mechanical product. In order to gain a balance point between the two opposite aspects, the quality loss function proposed by Taguchi is introduce to the assembly tolerance allocation and optimization. Based on the Taguchi quality function and the tolerance-cost function, the optimization model for assembly tolerance allocation is established. The fuzzy entropy weight method is used to define the object weightings. A specific PSO algorithm considering target weightings is used to solve the model. It can search the preference region by the Pareto dominant order to derive satisfactory solutions. The target weightings are allowed to change to adapt different design requirements. Finally, an engineering example is used to invalidate the proposed methodology.
