Operator training systems are essential toolsrnfor industrial systems, particularly for those where thernhuman error impacts on human and materials safety beyondrnfinancial losses. The work presented here is part of majorrnresearch project concerned with the study of operator'srnbehavior when facing safety critical situations. Thernapplication case concerns the supervisory control of anrnelectricity distribution substation. This paper focuses in thernfirst step of this project which consists in developing a realtimerninterface simulator of the supervisory control. Itrnproposes an operator training simulator (OTS) architecture.rnThe simulator's purpose is to promote the operator'srnimmersion into a working environment close to the realrnone. This paper presents the simulator's architecture, whichrnis based upon a set of formal models interconnected to formrnthe simulator engine. Those models were built using thernColored Petri Nets (CPN) formalism. The modularrnarchitecture allows for the remote interaction through thernweb and offers two interfaces with the plant's controlrnsystem: a virtual reality representation of the man machinerninterface (MMI) and a supervisory system representation.rnThis paper discusses the architecture aspects relevant to thernsimulation purposes.
