An experimental investigation was carded out on preparation of a new high strength and lightweight ceramsite by using waste domestic ceramic solid residues. The results show that when added other subsidiary raw materials such as red mud, pearlite refuses and pore-forming additive to waste domestic ceramic, an excellent ceramsitecan be obtained with the character of high strength, light weight and low water-absorbing coefficient. It has also been found by the experiments that the heat processing system has important effect on the performance of waste domestic ceramic ceramsite. In the experiment the optimal ratio of materials to produce high strength and lightweight waste domestic ceramic ceramsite is 60% waste ceramic, 30% red mud, 10% pearlite refuses and 4-6% the pore-forming additive. And the optimal burning temperature is 1200-1250℃. The specific tube compression strength can reach to 8.08×10-3MPa/kg· m-3, but the 12h water-absorbing coefficient is only 6.3 %.
