An exploration data management system, on which geologists,rngeophysicists and log analysts can work together with the samerndata source, is developed based on the broad band intranetrnenvironment now commonly used in oil enterprises andrncompanies. In most cases, it is demanded that the operationrnvisiting seismic data, log curves and remote images should bernas simple, direct and batch as possible. For this reason, therndesign of our system is not depended on any commercialrndatabase. It is based on a simple data structure called CIF. Inrnthis way, we not only improve the visiting efficiency, but alsornreduce greatly the cost of the system installation andrnmaintenance. Obviously, it gives a knowledgeable choice forrnthose upstream oil enterprises and companies for theirrnexploration data management. The server served in our systemrnis a SunFire V490 with its Solaris 8 operating system. The endrnusers, with their PC and Windows XP operating system, visitrnthe data saved on NetApp hard disk array through 1GB fiberrncable intranet. It is convenience for using the system to queryrnand visit seismic, logging and remote data as well as several ofrnmultimedia files (such as .doc, .xls, .ppt, .jpg and .mpg etc.),rnand to display or download them. In 2005, the system wasrnsuccessfully installed and put into production in ResearchrnInstitute of Petroleum Exploration & Development ofPetroChina in Beijing, and in China Petroleum Logging Co.,rnLtd.
