Modeling and SCADA provide two different ways to view the behavior of a waterrndistribution system. Traditionally, engineers and operators have used these technologies for differentrnpurposes. Operators utilize SCADA systems to operate and control the water system in real time, whilernengineers primarily use computer models for planning and design purposes. However, with the additionrnof improved interface tools and software drivers in recent years, SCADA and modeling have beenrnbrought together to form a powerful tool for both operators and engineers. This paper looks at thernsynergies between these two technologies and addresses some of the challenges that utilities andrnconsultants may encounter as they build a SCADA-integrated hydraulic model.
