Introduction of an Axial Flow Hydrocyclone

Hydrocyclones have been used in the petroleum industry for de-oiling producedrnwater for some time now. The typical unit consists of tangential inlets followed by a taperedrnbody. A new design based on axial flow past a stationary turbine instead of tangential inlets torninduce spin will be presented. The axial flow reduces pressure losses as well as shearing of thernoil droplets. Laboratory results of pressure losses, throughput, and performance will bernpresented.
