The use of ultrasonic waves to excite pulp fibers and to disrupt fiber mats on the forming board has greatrnpotential to enhance both dewatering and formation with benefits in both paper quality and fiber savings. Inrnthis paper we present results of experiments to determine the ability of 150 kHz pulsed ultrasound torndisrupt a wood fiber mat in water and the effect of varying pulse duration, acoustic power and forming wirerncomposition. Also, a method is shown to quantify the relative mat disruption and refluidization betweenrnexperiments based on high speed imaging techniques.
