Practical experience with compact papermachine wet end systems has increased the understanding of the function ofrnthe systems. Contrary to the first expectations compactness not only improves the responsiveness of the system butrnalso improves process stability.rnAfter removing air from the process water, the paper making system can be simple, compact and hydraulicallyrnclosed. It is designed according to principles used when designing electrical circuits. The paper discusses basicrndesign principles for a compact system and their influence on system performance. A compact process solution andrnresults obtained with this is reviewed.
