The concepts of heat transfer are centuries old. Cooling of rotationally molded plasticrnparts has been practiced for decades. The practical understanding of heat transferrnmechanisms at work during the cooling process is not always well understood orrnappreciated. Yet this understanding can go a long way in determining the parametersrnthat affect process cycle time. This tutorial plows no new ground, either technical orrnpractical. Instead it focuses on this understanding. There are four bullet points – thermalrninversion, plastic and mold thickness, shrinkage effect on cooling, and the cooling ofrnfoams.
