摘要

Quantitative electron microscopy has been fully utilized in elucidating the evolution of microstructure in metals and alloys when subject to electron, neutron and heavy-ion irradiation. The original capability of electron microscopy to characterize the nature of defect structure serves the basis for these researches. In the present report the topics selected are the efficient use of stereomicroscopy, the use of thin foils for irradiation to have well defined boundary condition for defect reaction analysis, identification of defect types of small point defect clusters introduced by irradiation with other particles by means of electron irradiation, and the easy one-dimensional motion of small interstitial clusters which are general for all kinds of irradiation.
