The use of novel polymer-based, pyrolysed carbons to effectively treat sepsis, a major cause ofrnmortality and morbidity in intensive care units, is dependent on their ability to filter blood and adsorbrncontributory inflammatory mediators. Biocompatibility assays were developed to assess inflammatoryrncell-carbon interactions and thus adapt the biological properties of a novel carbon device for therneffective treatment of sepsis.
